Qatargas Achieves Milestone LTI Record; Recognized with HSE Excellence Award
JMJ client Qatargas’ Jetty Boil-Off Gas (JBOG) Project team recently achieved a milestone result of 14 million man-hours without a Lost Time Incident (LTI). This achievement was celebrated during its fourth Safety Day at Ras Laffan. Several activities, aimed at promoting a safe working environment as well as their Incident and Injury-Free™ (IIF™) culture, were held at the JBOG Project Global Village camp in Ras Laffan Industrial City. The JBOG Safety Day celebrations coincided with the news that the project was awarded an HSE Excellence Award by Qatar Petroleum for the outstanding safety performance of the JBOG Project.
Qatargas unit marks its fourth Safety Day
Qatargas’ Jetty Boil-Off Gas (JBOG) Project team recently celebrated its fourth Safety Day at Ras Laffan. Several activities, aimed at promoting a safe working environment as well as the Incident and Injury-Free™ (IIF™) culture, were held at the JBOG Project Global Village camp in Ras Laffan Industrial City. The event was organised by the JBOG Project Management Team with support from its contractors - Fluor, Qcon, Qatar Kentz, Medgulf, Teyseer, Shaqab Abela, G4S and Draieh.
Sheikh Khalid bin Abdulla al-Thani, Qatargas chief operating offi cer (Engineering and Ventures) said: “Safety is a core value for Qatargas and an integral part of our culture at every level. The JBOG project has embraced Qatargas’ ‘Incident and Injury-Free’ programme from day one. The project recently achieved yet another signifi cant safety milestone of 14mn man-hours without any Lost Time Incident (LTI). This world class performance is the result of the continuous and proven commitment to safety by the entire JBOG project management and workforce. We continue to remain committed to our objective of ensuring that all our employees and contractors go home safely, every day. The JBOG Safety Day celebrations coincided with the news that Qatar Petroleum has awarded a HSE Excellence Award to Qatargas for the outstanding safety performance of the JBOG Project.”
JBOG project manager, Bashir Mirza said: “The JBOG Project Team and our construction contractors have worked extremely hard day after day to keep around 3,000 workers safe from injury, over a period of 1,000 days. Our team has fully utilised the Incident and Injury-Free behavioural safety programme as well as the JBOG Golden Rules to steadily improve our safe working behaviors. The fourth JBOG Safety Day was celebrated to express our gratitude to the workers for keeping themselves and their fellow workers safe during tough and challenging construction activities. The JBOG Project Team and its contractors will continue to be vigilant until the last project person goes home safely.”
The Safety Day celebration was kicked off with an early morning site visit during which the senior project and contractors’ leadership team toured the various project site locations and talked to the workers about working safely. The activities for the day included contractor’s safety display booths, safety quiz contests, sports activities, and awards and recognition for demonstrating safety excellence. Winners of the poster making contest, the best safety booth and the safety quizzes were given prizes. Several attractive prizes were given away through a raffl e draw. There were also two live bands playing popular tunes to the delight of the audience well into the late evening.
The JBOGR Project aims to recover gas currently being fl ared during LNG ship loading at Ras Laff an Port. The project is part of the Common Facilities Projects at Ras Laff an Industrial City.
The project will enable boiled-off gas to be collected from LNG ships and compressed at a central facility. The compressed gas will then be sent to the LNG producers to be consumed as fuel or converted back into LNG. This project, when fully operational, will recover the equivalent of some 0.6mn tonnes per year of LNG, which is enough natural gas to power more than 300,000 homes.
