Picture an action-packed warehouse, buzzing with activity. There might be thousands of individual items and products being moved by heavy machinery and equipment and lift trucks. These can all be potential safety risks for workers who are responsible for satisfying all orders. A business doesn't have to sacrifice employee safety when maintaining an efficient edge. Studies from the Bureau of Labor Statistics state that over 30% of days missed from work are due to musculoskeletal disorders such as strains, pulls, breaks and injuries of that type.
Other statistics are equally alarming. Year over year, there were over 1,000 new overexertion cases and warehouse falls rose by nearly 500 cases. The total costs to businesses in the United States rose to a staggering $1 billion per week. When it comes to workplace safety, back injuries are the most prevalent. Repeated tasks such as lifting heavy equipment, pallets, and other warehouse tasks can lead to back injuries, especially when these actions are repeated over long periods of time. We need safety leadership to alleviate this type of situation. The goal is to make all facilities incident and injury-free. This will save both money and lives.
