At JMJ, we say that “relationship is the foundation of accomplishment.” It’s one of our core principles, one we take very seriously.
What does it mean?
Basically, it means that to get great results, we focus on our relationships with our work and with those involved in the work we do.
We are all relating to ourselves and the people around us all the time. We have relationships with our families. We have relationships with our colleagues. We even have a relationship with the cashier at the airport sandwich stand taking our money right before we board the plane that’s taking off in five minutes. Some relationships are just stronger than others.
It’s the strength of relationship that leads to the magnitude of the accomplishment. It doesn’t take a whole lot to buy that airport sandwich. Hand over some cash, swipe a card, punch some numbers and take a receipt. Smile. (Or not.) Mission accomplished.
But raising a family? Managing a multi-million dollar mega-project? Making sure everyone on that project goes home to those families safe at night?
Those are the sorts of accomplishments that demand high relatedness.
We believe that the greater that magnitude of relatedness, the greater the accomplishment can be. This concept looks something like this:
As relationships grow, so does our potential for accomplishment. It really is fundamental.
So, in keeping with JMJ’s emphasis on building relationship, we introduce the JMJ Corporate Blog. In an effort to build relationship online, we will be offering explanations of JMJ’s practices, resources for improving organizational and project performance, suggestions for strengthening an Incident and Injury-Free® (IIF®) workplace, leadership tools and more.
And we welcome your suggestion and feedback as we continue to grow this page. Your comments are invaluable. Please, let us hear from you!
