AUSTIN, TEXAS, April 7 2014—In May 2014, leaders of thirty-one national and global construction firms comprising The Construction Industry Safety Initiative (CISI) group and the Incident and Injury-Free® (IIF®) CEO Forum have joined forces with a single aim: to inspire everyone in the industry to be leaders in safety. Both groups are seeking an industry-wide safety transformation and have launched the first annual “Safety Week” on May 4 to May 10, 2014.
Both groups have banded together to create and celebrate the first industry-wide ‘Safety Week’. They will be encouraging large and small contractors across the world to join them in elevating and celebrating safety with the goal of eliminating worker injury. They acknowledge the construction industry has a long way to go and presents a unique opportunity for everyone to work together. Construction workplace fatalities rose 5% in 2012, the first annual increase in six years, reports the Labour Department’s Bureau of Labour statistics.
The two groups believe we can all be leaders in keeping individuals and the workforce safe. They have created a Safety Week website to reach out to the entire industry and share safety ideas. The website has step-by-step planning tips for firms to host their own safety week events, as well as best practices on how to strengthen their safety culture.
Over the course of the week, thousands of people around the world will be engaged in activities related to safety in the workplace. JMJ Associates is proud and honored to be supporting them and to be part of this journey to maintain an industry in which no one is injured.
“At JMJ, we are moved and inspired by the shared commitment on the part of each organization to demonstrate safety as a core value,” says Camille Ford, Senior JMJ Consultant. “As we move forward in our efforts to ensure no one in the U.S. construction industry gets hurt, it’s imperative that we recognize that our people themselves hold the solutions to the problems we face. By managing our systems so that no one gets hurt and people flourish, we continue to build an industry where no incidents and no injuries is not simply a stand, but a reality. “
